A bride-to-be recently contacted me with a request for custom flower accessories for her flower girls. The colors for her wedding: gray and yellow. I love custom orders! Material costs are paid upfront and you get to make something that someone is going to enjoy.I wanted to share with you the steps that are involved in creating these flowers:
1) Purchase materials. It is best to buy a few different shades because it looks pretty when you layer them. Pictured here are yellow, light gray, and dark gray organza.
2) Cut circles of all sizes from the fabrics. I like to fold the fabric over a few times and then cut many circles at once.
3) Singeing. Here you take each petal and hold it above the flame so that it shrinks along the edges. Don't worry if you are doing a messy job of it. The petals will look great once they are together anyway. DO make sure to not let the material catch on fire and be aware that the endges of the petals remain hot for a few seconds after being over the flame.
4) Here is what the petals looks like when they are done:
5) Once you have a nice amount of petals you want to start thinking about the composition of your flower. I nestle the petals one inside fo the other and then pin them in place. These are yellow chiffon:
These are different shades of gray organza:
Larger flowers generally need more petals to get that lush, full look:
You can play around by mixing different colors and sizes. I really liked the way that this came out:
6) Now you want to decide what to put in the center of the flowers. For this order I used freshwater pearl beads, because they are for a wedding.Sometimes simple is prettiest. Here I added a single freshwater pearl to the center of each flower:

Sometimes I like to add three beads:
Here I used larger, flat freshwater pearls:
For these I added in some white tulle for contrast:
Aren't they darling?
Some of these flowers will become bobby pins, some will be attached to headbands. The rest will be for me to play with :) I am thinking pins or necklaces.Hope you enjoyed this anecdote/tutorial! Feel free to check out my original singed organza flower tutorial here.
This is such a nice tutorial! I love the grey big flowers with the three beads in the middle. :o)
